学制：プレスクール・幼稚園（３歳から５歳）、就学前教育（幼稚園・プレパラトリー、５歳）、小学校（６年制）－中学校（４年制）－高校（２年制）、小学校（７年制）－中学校（３年制）－高校（２年制）、高等教育（18歳から）
管轄省庁：教育訓練省、社会サービス省（保育政策とプログラムを管轄）
義務教育：各州・テリトリーによって異なる。多くの場合、６歳から15歳まで（中学校まで）が義務教育であるが、近年教育期間を延長する方向に進んでおり、ほとんどの州・テリトリーでは５歳で就学し、17歳まで就学あるいは職業訓練を受けることが義務付けられている。詳細は以下参照：
